CoolSculpting® uses cryolipolysis, which is just a technical way to say fat-freezing. When fat cells freeze, they die and are then naturally eliminated through the body’s natural process. 

1. What happens during?

The applicator will be placed on the treatment area and there will be a slight suction as it adheres to your body. You then should expect to feel the cooling once turned on and we have you comfortable on the treatment chair.

2. Does it hurt?

During the procedure you may experience sensations of pulling, tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching, and cramping at the treatment site. These sensations subside as the area becomes numb within the first few minutes.

3. How long does it take?

Each CoolSculpting® treatment is different, so it depends on which areas of the body and how many of them you plan on doing. Depending on the area, treatment can be done in as little as 35 minutes. We have multiple CoolSculpting® machines, allowing patients to do multiple treatment areas at once, reducing the amount of time spent in office.

4. What Can I Expect After The Applicator Comes Off?

After the applicator is detached, your provider will do a brief massage on the area to break up the treated fat cells and enhance the fat reduction. That’s it!

5. Is There Downtime?

Following the procedure, typical side effects include temporary redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, or skin sensitivity. These will subside and return to normal within a few weeks. Because the CoolSculpting procedure is completely non-surgical, it’s typically very easy to return to your normal activities after the treatment. Often, patients go back to work on the same day. When you have a CoolSculpting treatment, there are no needles, no surgery, and no downtime.

6. When Will I See Results?

7. What can I do or bring during my treatment? 

Disposable clothing is provided for the treatment but you will want to arrive in soft, comfortable clothing to wear after CoolSculpting. Undergarments left on during treatment may be exposed to a thick gel used for skin protection and may stain.
Eat a light meal or snack before your appointment and limit caffeine immediately prior to your appointment time.  

Movement is limited during your treatment.  We want you to sit back and relax.  Many patients find bringing a book, movie, music or even taking a nap passes time quickly.
